THE HEART OF SPRING: AN AWAKENING
ANGELA VINSON
These new pieces are like a breath of fresh spring air, a little celebration of new beginnings and finding my way back to making art in a way that feels true to myself. You'll see Indiana native wildflowers taking center stage, sometimes captured in quick, lively charcoal drawings, and other times blooming in color on my hand-thrown pottery.
The paintings started with these colorful, almost dreamy landscapes, and then I covered much of that color with a quiet white, drawing the wildflowers over top in charcoal. It felt like connecting two parts of my process – my love for painting abstract open spaces and the way I paint tiny flowers on my pots over top a bright white glaze. There's something really satisfying about that smooth white surface waiting for the flowers to appear.
This whole series has been about letting go a little, having fun, and not being afraid to try new things. After a busy few years, it feels good to be stepping into this new season of making with a lighter heart, just like the wildflowers pushing up through the earth. It's an invitation to slow down, notice the beauty right here around us, and maybe feel a little bit of that same sense of renewal.
