Custom Commission Spotlight: Arandas Mexican Restaurant
If you know me, you know my heart (and stomach) belongs to two things: authentic Mexican food and the occasional pasta. So, when I was asked last summer to create a custom series of paintings for a new local Mexican restaurant, I didn’t just say yes—I jumped at the chance.
I worked closely with the owner of Arandas to bring a piece of his home in Arandas, Mexico, to our community here. He had a specific vision: a Catrina and Catrín portraits for the restrooms, the intricate Maya calendar, and the iconic agave plants that define the landscape of his heritage.
After days of deep-diving into the history and aesthetic of Arandas, those ideas evolved into a series of eight custom paintings that now call the restaurant home.
The first time I ate there I said, "Oh my goodness! Taste this, it tastes like Thanksgiving! There is so much love in there!" Go taste the yummy food and see the art in person at the restaurant.
Want to see the inspiration behind the art (and taste the food that fueled the process)?
Join us for the May 15th Gallery Walk Fiesta 6-9PM! (Save the Date) We are partnering with Arandas to cater the evening with the very food that inspired these pieces. Come for the art, stay for the tacos, and celebrate the connection between food and community!
